\nWhen I was making my travel arrangements for the conference, I decided to fly
\nin a day early -- not because I wanted to have some time to tour Vancouver but
\nto save some money. After a full day of walking around downtown (along the waterfront,
\nthrough Gastown<\/a>, the historic
\ncore of Vancouver; to the surprisingly large Chinatown<\/a>
\n(which blessed me with the stillness of Dr.
\nSun Yat-Sen Park<\/a>), but couldn't get into the museum\/archive<\/a>
\nof The Chinese Cultural Center
\nof Greater Vancouver<\/a> (though it was supposed to open today); onto the main
\nbranch of the Vancouver
\nPublic Library<\/a>, which reminds me of the Toronto
\nReference Library<\/a>; the Granville
\nBook company<\/a> and Chapters
\nBooks<\/a> on Robson
\nStreet<\/a> (which I guess is one of the main drags of Vancouver), along with Granville
\nStreet<\/a>; to dinner at Hon's
\nWun-Tun House<\/a> -- and then back to my hotel, the Pan
\nPacific Hotel Vancouver<\/a>. <\/p>\n
\nabout Vancouver that I was thinking about ways to share that excitement
\nwith readers. The previous paragraph is a start, a laundry list of
\nwhere I was. But it's 11pm -- and I need to hit the sack. Perhaps more
\nwill come later. (I regret not bringing my camera with me but lately,
\nI've gotten tired of schlepping a big camera on my trips to other
\ncities -- it makes stowing my backpack underneath the seat in front of
